According to Hindu mythology, Lord Kaal Bhairav is a fierce and terrifying form of Lord Shiva. Legend has it that once, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, became arrogant and began to disrespect Lord Shiva. In response, Lord Shiva created Kaal Bhairav, who appeared as a ferocious black dog and beheaded one of Brahma’s heads. This incident humbled Brahma and he realized the importance of respecting Lord Shiva.

Another popular story related to Kaal Bhairav goes like this: Once, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma had a disagreement about who was more powerful. In order to settle the dispute, Lord Shiva appeared as a blazing pillar of fire and asked them to find the end of the pillar. Lord Brahma turned into a swan and flew towards the sky to find the top of the pillar, while Lord Vishnu turned into a boar and dug into the ground to find its bottom. However, neither could find the end of the pillar. At that moment, Lord Kaal Bhairav appeared and revealed that the pillar was Lord Shiva himself, and that he was the most powerful of all.
